Healthcare systems can look to purchased services to find innovative ways to save precious budget dollars

In a Healthcare Purchasing News article published Dec. 21, 2020, TractManager’s Eric Slimp and Michael Costantini offered their views on how supply chain administrators in healthcare organizations can look for savings in the realm of purchased services. They pointed to three areas in particular: staffing/recruiting, revenue cycle management, and vending services.

“The typical process for identifying high-impact purchased services involves identifying categories of high spend and forming initiatives around those purchased services,” Slimp said.

With the revenue cycle management function, for example, outsourcing almost always results in savings, the two pointed out. The processes for billing and securing reimbursement have become so complex that it is the rare health system that can provide the expertise in-house required to perform end-to-end RCM processes at scale.
